In the Sanatan Dharma, there are mentioned 33 categories of deities of Indian culture, Lord Shiva is considered to be embellished with the analogy of Devadhidev Mahadev.
Jyotirlinga refers to the place where Mahadev manifested himself. In Sanatan culture, there is huge esteem for jyotirlinga. A glimpse of jyotirlinga is seen to be a soul-cleansing experience.
All over India, there are 12 Jyotirlingas located in various holy locations. Jyotirlinga temples are located widely from north to south and east to west in India. But as this city Varanasi i.e. Kashi is the favorite place of Lord Mahadeva. You will find all the 12 jyotirlingas in Varanasi itself.
In Kashi, temples from Somnath to Kedarnath, and Baijnath to Mallikarjuna Mahadev have been built. Lord Shiva is said to have given darshan of the 12 Jyotirlingas here to his worshippers who are unable to travel to different locations.
